Success or Failure?
At the start of every New Year, it seems appropriate to take stock of our successes and our failures. Of course, all successful people know that failure is part of the journey. In light of that fact, I would like to share some quotes about Success and Failure for you to reflect upon. The quotes were gathered with the help of Karen Speerstra and her book, “Divine Sparks:”
FAILURE
Failure is the true test of greatness-Herman Melville
Ever tried? Ever failed? No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better. –Samuel Beckett
As psychologist Dean Keith Simonton has demonstrated, the most acclaimed creators not only create more works than their peers, they also generate more failures; the notion that every work by a master is equally meritorious is dead wrong-Howard Gardner
You must once and for all give up being worried about successes and failures. Don’t let that concern you. It’s your duty to go on working steadily day by day, quite steadily, to be prepared for mistakes, which are inevitable, and for failures.-Anton Chekhov
If you want to be successful faster, you must double your rate of failure-Thomas Watson
SUCCESS
The paths we take depend on our own definitions of success.-Virginia O’Brien
Success is nothing more than going from failure to failure with undiminished enthusiasm.-Winston Churchill
Stop. Ask yourself, “What are ten ways I could succeed at this?” –Ellen Langer
The word success is an ambiguous word. Success with respect to the outside? Or success with respect to oneself? And if it is a success with respect to the outside, then how do you evaluate it? …Success is not one of my motives, because success stands in contrast to failure. - Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar & Milahy Csikszentmihalyi
The dictionary is the only place where success comes before work.-Arthur Brisbane
