Safeco Insurance Make More Happen Award
Clark-Mortenson Insurance is the recipient of the Safeco Insurance Make More Happen Award for its volunteer service with Meeting Waters YMCA. This award includes a $3,000 donation from Safeco Insurance for Meeting Waters YMCA and entry in the Safeco® Make More Happen Contest, where the public is encouraged to vote for their favorite charity and leave a virtual cheer for those who make a difference in their communities.
Our organization was selected for the Safeco® Make More Happen Award based on a photo and application that was submitted, demonstrating how agency volunteers make more happen for Meeting Waters YMCA.
Meeting Waters YMCA was selected through Clark-Mortenson’s “Charity of Choice” program. Each year, our employees nominate a charity to support by volunteering time and fundraising efforts throughout the year. Clark-Mortenson has helped the YMCA by providing supplies, volunteer hours, marketing support, and PR through our social media platforms, print newsletters and website.
Throughout this past year, there was a company-wide drive to gather arts and craft supplies as well as sports equipment for donation, contribution of funds to help repaint their childcare transportation bus, and also we have completed a successful Facebook “like” campaign with other local businesses where we donated $1 to the Y for every like our page received. We also offer graphic design support by helping to put together a newsletter, as well as marketing support by sharing Facebook posts and Tweets about events. Additionally, our employees have also used personal time to help clean up the YMCA’s camp to prepare it for the summer season.
Meeting Waters YMCA’s reach is far and deep. The regional Y positively impacts the lives of people in over three dozen communities in southeastern Vermont and southwestern New Hampshire. It is the largest provider of state-licensed school-age child care in the region, providing year-round “out-of-school” care for more than 375 area youth—afterschool, on vacations, holidays and snow days, and over summer break. Over half of the youth and families served by Meeting Waters YMCA are living in—or are on the edge of—poverty. The Y also offers other services and provides leadership in the areas of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility in an effort to strengthen the foundations of community.
“We are so grateful for all that the amazing people at Clark-Mortenson have done for us throughout the year,” said Meeting Waters YMCA Executive Director, Steve Fortier. “They’ve provided us with vital program and financial support. And, they’ve shined a spotlight on our life-changing work… helping us tell our stories of impact to far more people. The recognition they are receiving from Safeco and the financial support that comes to us through this recognition are a most-wonderful way for us to wind down this year-long partnership.”
Safeco Insurance will donate $10,000 to the charity with the most votes and $5,000 to the runner-up. All nonprofit organizations featured in the contest will receive an additional $500 donation from Safeco if the total votes in the contest reach or exceed 25,000 votes. The votes can be casted once every 24 hours from 10 a.m. PDT Oct. 27 until 10 a.m. PST Nov. 17.
