About The Claims Process

About The Claims Process

When you report a claim to our office we will report your claim to your insurance company. Once the claims process has begun the company will assign an adjuster to handle your claim. The claims adjuster will be in contact with you, usually within 24 to 48 hours. They gather information regarding the claim and walk you through the next steps. Depending on the severity of the claim the will determine if they need to send someone out to inspect your damages. Once the value of the damages has been determined and coverage confirmed payment of your claim will be made in a timely fashion.

Our dedicated claims department is here to help with any questions that may arise during the claim settlement process.

Your vehicle is declared a total loss – what happens next?

  • The company adjuster will ask you to remove your license plates and personal items from the vehicle.
  • They will want to have the vehicle moved to a salvage yard to avoid additional storage fees and begin the process of determining the value of your vehicle. The company will pay the actual cash value of your vehicle at the time of the loss less your deductible.
  • You will need to notify your finance or leasing company (if applicable) to give them permission to discuss your claim with the claim adjuster.

Replacement cost coverage for property
If you carry replacement cost coverage and suffer a loss to your contents your claim may be settled as follows: When the replacement cost of the entire loss exceeds $500 the company will pay the actual cash value for the loss or damage until the actual repair or replacement is complete.

How does Co-Insurance work?
Most insurance companies require that the insured purchase insurance in an amount equal to 100% of the value of the property they are insuring to not suffer a penalty in the event of a loss.

For example the insured owns a building that is valued at $100,000. The insured decides to insure the building for $80,000 to save on the premium. There is a fire and 50% of the building is damaged. The loss settlement would be as follows:

FORMULA

Had the building been insured for the full $100,000 the insured would have been paid $50,000 less the deductible.

Glass/Windshield Claims
Most insurance companies now require claims for windshields/glass damage to be called in directly to the companies dedicated glass claim reporting number. You can find the number for your insurance company in the claim reporting section

What to do if you get in an accident

  • Move your car to a safe location, but be careful not to leave the scene
  • Check to see if anyone is hurt and call 911 if medical assistance is needed
  • Contact the police. They will let you know if an officer needs to be present
  • If your car isn’t driveable call a tow truck

What information should you exchange?

  • Name, address and phone number of the driver and owner of the vehicle
  • Names and phone numbers of any passengers and witnesses
  • Company name, policy number and phone number of other insurance companies

What is Rental Reimbursement
Rental Reimbursement is an optional coverage that will help pay for rental car costs while your car is being repaired due to a covered loss. Rental Reimbursement does not cover rental car costs if your car is out of service due to a mechanical breakdown

Rental Reimbursement may be subject to a daily limit and a maximum limit. For example, if you have $30 per day/$900 per claim for a rental vehicle. The insurance company will pay $30 per day but no more than $900 per claim. Most insurance companies will direct bill the rental car agency.
