In the Community: Fast Friends Greyhound Adoption

fast friendsI had the opportunity to do some volunteering at Fast Friends Greyhound Adoption in Swanzey, NH.  This organization is a rescue center for retired racing greyhounds.  They also have dog boarding and daycare services for all breeds.  Fast Friends offers these beautiful animals another chance after their racing career has ended to have a caring home environment.

While I was there I volunteered to help with cleanup activities, such as sweeping, mopping, and washing dishes.  Also, I had the privilege of preparing their meals for the day, as well as cleaning up their kennels.  During that time I was also able to see other volunteers taking the dogs for walks outdoors and socializing the dogs with humans so they could adjust from track life to a home environment.  I also helped with setting up for their monthly yard sale.  During the spring, summer, and fall months Fast Friends does a yard sale to benefit the dogs by having people donate items for them to sell.  I enjoyed my time there because the staff is extremely friendly and caring to the animals, and they do a lot to provide these dogs with a second chance.
