Historic Claremont, New Hampshire:

The City of Claremont is situated on the western border of New Hampshire, on the Sugar River, near its junction with the Connecticut River. Settled in 1762, Claremont was organized as a town in 1764 and was probably named for the duke of Newcastle's country estate in England. Waterpower for early industry was provided by the Sugar River, and the completion of the Concord and Claremont Railroad (1871-72) gave impetus to economic growth. Claremont, the only city in Sullivan County, is the largest community in a radius of approximately thirty miles and serves as a retail and professional hub for the region as well as offering a multitude of cultural experiences through performances at the Claremont Opera House.
